Point Reyes Station. Northern California.

One of my all-time favorite things is oyster-shucking in Tomales Bay and this is where I would like to shuck them.   A massive, modern getaway, with a 92” projection screen, 75’ lap pool, spa and steam room.  Slurp.

About $700-800/night for 4,000 sq ft.

Hood River, Oregon.

The Neal Creek residence treads lightly upon its surroundings, maximizing valley and water views with minimal impact to the natural environment.  The owners – windsurfing and snowboarding enthusiasts – were interested in a modest weekend retreat that would be highly efficient and ecologically minded.

Sleeps 6, no pets. $175/night (June-Aug week rental only for $995)

Mt. Hood/Hood River House in Oregon.

I have a hard time finding modern stays anywhere in Oregon, but I’ve scrounged up a few.  This 4-bedroom has great roof lines, but I had to dock them for the god-awful printed bedspreads and vertical blinds.  But with two master bedrooms, steam shower, sauna and hot tub…maybe it’s forgivable.

$325-450 night + $39 lift tickets to Meadows! (no pets)

Helios in Bend, Oregon.

This is the other unit (2nd one from the right) which I believe would be quieter, since E3 is on the corner of a busy street.  Furnishings are way more stylish and high-end.

And this one is PET-FRIENDLY - score! $249/night.

E3 Eco-luxe in Bend, Oregon.

Well, these people beat us to it.  We were considering buying one of these romper room ‘foreclosures’ back in 2008 when they went for $277k (originally offered at $850k at the height of the market!).  Bend is slow on the modern uptake, and resents and resists it with a Pronghorn passion.  I commend E3 for having the foresight and thumbing their noses at the local yoakels.

3 bedrooms, $225-250/night. No pets.
